how long from start to finish does it take to make money making video games if you started from scratch?

I am going to start making XNA games and would like to know a estimated time frame for start to finish to money intake flow.
I can code and 3d model and do all the 2d elements myself.
everything is planned out and i have no job so i can work on this 8 hours a day everyday.

    2. Well, if you have someone willing to put a roof over your head, food on your table, and pay for your Utilities to not be shut-off - and if it is the ‘rents, gullible enough to not toss you out on your ear…

    If it is a hit when it’s done…maybe 5 years before it’s polished enough for release and selling. Double that if your first effort bombs. Halve that if you actually manage to sell the concept to a Publishing House.

    Incidentally…if you want to create games…why don’t you apply to the various game studios. That way you can get paid from day 1 - assuming you’re good enough (or have enough promise) for them to hire!
