Wouldn't it be simpler to buy the things?
I'm tempted to so its always the US because they haven't learnt from the rest of the world to hide their chequebook yet.

  2. i remember reading this & posted a Q on it but i can't find it…

"Afghan farmers hope to capitalise on soaring food costs by growing wheat instead of poppy crops, with the fall in heroin prices further fuelling the switch…

Critics say international initiatives on poppy eradication have been too focused on trying to stop the Taliban's key source of funding. Yet these efforts have not helped the Afghan farmers become more self-sufficient.

"It's a cruel twist of irony that when the British forces were deployed in Helmand … poppy eradication was one of the key priorities, but it is the global economic situation that is doing the job for them."

  4. I think there's far too much money in heroin for anyone to want to stop it. I really think it's as simple as that.

My point is that they don't WANT to buy it at source. The USA were given the opportunity to buy the entire Burmese opium crop back in the 70's. Heroin makes lots of money, for all sorts of people, at every level.

  6. be simple to just drop napalm and burn it all .

Edit : Why don't we pay people to break into our homes and steel everything we have ? Same difference

  8. What ever you pay them, they'll grow it anyhow. Heroin produced my Muslims who pray 5 times a day. Sounds like hypocrisy to me.

  10. I agree with 'Vambo number 5'.

How many times do people have to hear that drugs are bad before they stop doing things like heroin? It's not the farmer's fault that there are so many people out there addicted to drugs, they are only trying to make enough money to feed their family.

  12. Why is it the United State's responsibility to buy out Afghan farmers? Why is is always that the US is the only nation that cares and has to fork over money? Why don't other nations give a hoot and do something?

Afghan farmers will continue to grow poppies until they find another way to earn a living that is more lucrative.

  16. Heroin in Afghanistan is a multi-billion dollar drug trade and the US and NATO are cashing in on it. Opium production has skyrocketed since the US invasion. The US knows each and every location of opium production plants but have done nothing to take them out. A lot of this heroin goes to European countries who are all part of NATO. During the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan, there were 10,000 deaths in Russia from heroiine coming from Afghanistan. During the US occupation there are now 30000 deaths in Russia from heroine coming from Afg.
