I can't leave it blank, the applications online for places like Red Robin require you to fill it in and if you don't then it won't let you submit the app.

  2. I learned in business class that it was always appropriate to write the word "Open" in that space. It indicates that you are willing to negociate the pay. Most waitress positions pay minimum wage at least for the first few months you work there anyway. If you say "minimum wage" they might pay you less than they normally offer other people, and if you actually give them a number, they might not call you back because you're too expensive.

  4. Be honest but not greedy. If you know that most waitress jobs pay about $7 - $10 an hour. Ask for $ within that range. Don't say $15 or they'll hire the girl that asked for $8. I hope this makes sense.

  6. Well I have never head of a waitress making THAT much as the previous answer said but maybe I live too far out from the major cities. I would just say the going fair wage and that you are open for discussion. Waitresses make most of their money from tips. You could say you wish to make enough in wages and tips to pay your rent!

  8. You could always write in "negotiable". I think minimum wage for waitresses is still like $2.13 plus your tips. It's supposed to add up to at least the federal minimum wage but that depends on the employer.

  10. Leave it blank. It's up to them to offer you a position and outline what they are willing to pay.

  12. write the word 'open'
this leaves the conversation 'open' to negotiation
this is a standard practice when filling out an application
